Well, I’ve been dropping balls, so to speak, but I’m determined to pick up blogging again. The transition has been a bit bumpy, so my juggling a bit atrocious right now. Concentration goes well, but the persistence and pace – not so much. Baby steps.
Today’s post is not so much surreal, as surreally beautiful. ArmitageWorld has been all aflutter this week over the new Hobbit trailer and more peeks at RA as Thorin. Instead of throwing in my very snarky 3 cents worth, I will be uncharacteristically nice and offer up this gorgeous digital painting by ThreshTheSky. Done completely in Photoshop, it arrested my attention. ThreshTheSky has quite a talent. Check out her gallery.

I’m glad whenever I see you and I agree, baby steps.
I’m torn about the painting. It is *truly* surreal, in the sense that it is so smoothed over that it actually looks like a surrealist painting. I’m trying to decide if I like that, or whether something I enjoy about this Thorin pic is its tiny little signs of scruffiness.
Baby steps are good, yeah, that’s what I keep telling myself over and over…..and again and again… 😉
About this picture of Thorin, I’m also quite ambivalent and undecided. For me it’s too much of everything, too smooth and too holy for my liking. It reminds me a lot on those kitschy images of the saints, which were never my cup of tea (not only the pictures but also the saints themselves!!). Nevertheless I had downloaded it because it definitely is a uniquely striking portrait.
very apropos comparison, linda60. I couldn’t figure out what was bugging me, but that was right on — something about the tones of colors make it look like a saint’s image.

I am loving it! Religious icon or not, I am willing to worship at this altar! 🙂
Wow, that sounds powerful and determinded !!! LOL
Woow… that’s very nice, I love it. 🙂
too silky for my liking 😉
Hi Judiang,
This is a nice illustration of Richard Armitage as Thorin. And surrealist or not, it looks a heck of a lot more like RA than some of his action figures. Ha! Thanks for sharing.
Cheers! Grati ;->
P.S. I’m so behind on blog reading that I’m just now catching up to you. Blog when you feel like it–even if it’s only once or twice a week. Eventually, you will get back into the groove.
