  2. Nice post. fitzg – thanks! I think that Richard A has mentioned he might not play RIII in a number of interviews. The alternatives (narrator, or Duke of Clarence) may be very feasible indeed. He would play “shadowy” well. As for Clarence, being drowned in an oak cask ……!!! (Not sure I could cope with that!.

    • Yes, Mulubinba, he has worried about being too old for Richard – as if! Still, if his production is to be based on Sunne, there are other characters. 😀

  3. Thanks for the post,Fitzg!:)

    Richard III *sigh* 🙂  I think that Richard will choose a serial betrayer and traitor. Do you remember that he was delighted at the opportunity to shoot Grandma?  😉

    • Joanne, he does BAD so well! And we love his bad Guys. Still, re-reading Sunne, Francis was intriguing. Then again, Buckingham in both the novel, and in history? Buckingham did murder the princes, after all. Everyone knows that 😀  (I believe it, anyway)

  4. Hi Fitzg,
    Lovely alternate choices for Richard Armitage to perform in his dream project of Richard III–given any time constraints he might be under.
    Cheers!   Grati  ;->

    • Grati, I just hope he has the opportunity to make the choices! Richard III needs rescuing. Just get him a horse, everyone!

  6. No matter which character Richard Armitage plays in this historical drama, his will probably be my favorite!  I’d get myself locked in the tower with him anytime.  😉

  7. bcc mee, does that mean you are prepared to be beheaded? Not up for drowning, myself. But maybe a butt of malmsey is preferable to an axe. Maybe…

  8. This was one I hadn’t thought of. I’m always thinking of Warwick. Someone suggested on my blog recently John of Gaunt.

    • Peter Jackson seems to love turning very tall aorcts into dwarves. John Rhys-Davies who played Gimli is around 6 feet himself.Being a Yank, I discovered RA late by catching Robin Hood episodes online. When I first heard he was going to be in The Hobbit as one of the dwarves, I thought, well how is _that_ going to work? But then I saw his costume and all I have to say is, OMG, it _IS_ Thorin Oakensheild! Thats pretty much how I imagined the character when reading The Hobbit.

  9. servetus, Warwick was the first thought! Larger than life. But Richie was only 18 or 19 when the Kingmaker bit the dust. Gaunt unfortunately died nearly 100 years before. But I want RA for a John of Gaunt/Katherine Swynford production, with Cate Blanchett….

    Jael, brilliant! A tall Anne Neville!

  10. Fitz, I love your options, though I must admit, I have a great fear of drowning and would prefer another role for him, because I don’t see that much difference between water and wine. Beheading was not all too comfortable back then either, but compareable to Richard III’s death.

    Couldn’t he play the bishop, declaring the wedding of Edward illegal, or someone of the later conspirators from the houshold of his mother or a dignitary from London or York or the university of Cambridge or … if it need be a small role because of his many other obligations after “The Hobbit” ;o)

    • bccmee: All hail Peter Jackson for giving him the cnache! :)Leffe: What?! When did you get out? Back to your cave! Shoo! 😛 (Plus I was talking specifically about RA’s Voice, not anyone else’s, however good we may think AR’s is. :P)Sarah: I agree and hope he’ll keep living back home in Britain rather than settling over in LA.mulubinba: Been years and years since I read the book, so I don’t even remember Bard as a character. Or Thorin, actually. *cough* Will be re-reading it soon-ish, though, and then I’ll probably agree! :)servetus: As long as it doesn’t mean he has a personality replacement and becomes paparazzi fodder like the rest of them. That would be sad. :(RAFrenzy: That’s kind of the point, my use of “our Richard” a sort of half-joke/half serious thing. (Took it from Nanny Ogg in the Discworld books who uses it for the whole family: “Our Sean”, “Our John” and so on.) We (the fans) do feel a familiarity with RA, and with that comes a certain level of protectiveness toward him, but how often do we actually stop to think “hang on, this is a person we actually don’t know at all”? We’ve just kind of claimed him for our own and defend him like a real Army would. As for privacy, couldn’t agree with you more. There’s one thing to be politely curious about a celebrity, and quite another to start stalking them. The address thing happened to me a few times when I was doing a Thomas Anders fansite, so eventually I put “No, I don’t know his address and if I did, I wouldn’t give it out!” in the site FAQ. Why would you want to know? If you want to send the guy a letter, send it to his agent! There are some really scary fans out there. (Me & someone else even contacted TA’s “people” just to make them aware of the situation because we were genuinely concerned for his safety, that of his wife and his then unborn child. That fan creeped me out!)Nat: Yeah, I know, cartoons! Some people, eh? Bloody weirdos! 😉 *giggle*

  12. CDort, I like the bumbling bishop! That could be perfect! A bit unexceptional as a churchman, but with a conscience.

  13. Great post, and much more food for thought this week! Yes, the tienrad speaking voice and musicality suggests that a singing career would not have been beyond the realm, with singing training.Do you think that what Mr. A has done, is to bring all those talents together (never mind the long gone “pigeon toes” , long limbs and big feet, to a choice, and incorporate all into the acting career? Why waste a VOICE, among other gifts?fitzg
